Kids Bath Sneak Peek

It's almost done!!!
Here's a sneak peek of the most frustrating bath remodel ever. And you would think that for as simple as this bathroom is, it could've never have taken so long and have been so frustrating.

Cabinets are in, sink/countertop is in, and now we need the plumbing fixtures and toilet which will happen this afternoon still. The plumber is on his way. I gotta run to Lowe's for a few other things and voilá, the kids will take their inaugural bath tomorrow morning, YAY!!

The Remodel Goes On.....

So.....a long time ago(it seems like because my time frame runs faster than the average person), I wrote about the bathrooms that we were going to remodel. Well, we have started. It took a while longer to start because they first bid we got for labor only was astronomical compared to the second and third bid we got. Hence, lesson #1 of a remodel: always get at least 3 bids on the work, and be VERY specific on what you want done to make sure there are NO miscomunication. Consequently, we got a screaming deal on the labor bid: win #1.

Anyway, so let me first say that I didn't really quit the DIY project. My mother was planning on staying with us for 2 months and we really only have one shower right now. So I figured that in order to save time and have a real bathroom that she and the kids could use, we decided to get someone in here to do it quickly. When I got the first bid, I was so frustrated that it was so high that in 2 hours after receiving it, I had taken Isaac to school, had gone to Home Depot or Lowe's and had bought a reciprocating saw, and a bunch of other tools and equipment, had taken down the mirror, and was breaking into the cabinets. I had also made an appointment to meet with the 2nd bidder. Mike didn't like me demo'ing the job since I was going to have other people come and look at it and to give us a price. So I promised to wait until everyone had seen the bathrooms as they were.

Well, here's what they look like a week later. We ran into a few hang ups. In the kids bathroom (the one we need the most) I found out on Thursday as all the plumbing fixtures got delivered except for the tub, that the tub was not going to be shipped for another 2-3 weeks. I was livid!! It had been 2 weeks, I had double checked with a sales person before I ordered everything, that EVERY single item was in stock and how quickly they were to ship post order. "2 days" I was told on the email. 3 days after I ordered I emailed the Decor Planet to find out what was happening with my order and no one replied. Another day or two went by and there was finally information online suggesting shipment. So Thursday when the tub didn't show up, and the plumber was here waiting for it (it's the first thing that needs to go into the bathroom so we can build upon it), Decor Planet tells me that it never shipped because there were two in stock and both were damaged so they ordered more, but it was going to be 14 weeks before it shipped for another week for delivery. CANCELED! Loss #1

Now the search for a new tub begins, and sometimes I wish I wasn't so OCD. But it's like Mike says, "we're going to live here for the rest of our lives and to install something we don't love, just to get it done faster is not worth it." As you usual Mike is always right.......

Loss #2: As we started to raised the ceiling in the half bathroom(for some reason our house has all these fur-downs at 7'AFF which makes no sense since there's no ducts in them), we discovered that the area around the skylight has water damage. So now we will have to take out the whole ceiling in there and replace the skylight(which I'm happy about because I've bought a much bigger one) as well as the roof in that area. This could be a potentially huge loss since we're concerned that the whole area has mold. I'm putting a call into the mold remidiation company pronto.

That's the current update on the remodel.
